Providing Lifesaving Aid to Political Prisoners in Myanmar

We are sharing a letter sent by a local group that we have been supporting, sharing an update about their important work. We wish to deeply thank all of our donors, as without your support, we could never support such important projects! We also kindly request readers to make a recurring donation of even a few dollars a month, which allows us to continue to fund such work. Thank you for your attention!

The difficulty we encounter is a shared burden, as the well-being of everyone in Myanmar is at stake, and the future of our nation hangs in the balance. In short, there is only one way to say it: the show must go on.

This is an urgent and heartfelt appeal on behalf of the political prisoners in Myanmar who are currently facing dire conditions, with an alarming increase in deaths due to malnutrition and lack of proper medical care.

Our organization has been tirelessly working to alleviate the suffering of these prisoners for over two years now, and with the invaluable support of Better Burma and compassionate donors like yourself, we have successfully provided sustenance to the prisoners for the past four consecutive months. However, the situation remains critical, as the number of individuals incarcerated under political laws continues to rise.

The challenges we face in delivering aid are immense, given the perilous circumstances surrounding the act of providing food and essential supplies to the prisoners. Any individual involved in delivering goods to the prisoners is considered a traitor and faces certain imprisonment. Our dedicated team operates with utmost discretion, taking every precaution to conceal their activities and protect themselves from repercussions.

At present, we are seeking assistance to extend our support to 38+ political prisoners housed in two different prisons. The estimated cost to sustain their minimum monthly nutritional needs, including food, vegetables, and small snacks, amounts to approximately $290 per month.

Supporting a group of 38+ people within the confines of a prison environment poses significant challenges, but our commitment to alleviating the suffering of these individuals remains unwavering. The difficulty we encounter is a shared burden, as the well-being of everyone in Myanmar is at stake, and the future of our nation hangs in the balance. In short, there is only one way to say it: the show must go on.

At this critical juncture, it's also important to share with our valued donors and supporters that we are unable to provide photographs of our work at the moment. The military has escalated its efforts to track down those involved in our relief activities, going so far as to approach our friends and pay visits to the home of our families. This alarming development has forced us to adopt even stricter security measures to ensure the safety of our team and the people we assist. In light of these circumstances, we kindly ask for your understanding and trust that, despite the absence of visual evidence, our mission is genuine and our efforts to aid the political prisoners in Myanmar are relentless and sincere.

Your contribution can make a substantial difference in ensuring the survival and well-being of these political prisoners. We kindly request your support in this critical endeavor. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and uphold the principles of justice and human rights. We sincerely thank you for considering our plea and for your continued commitment to making a positive change.
